03.10.2025 | IDA Lab participates in innovative educational project as part of the AI Call Salzburg 2025

As part of the funding programme "AI research Salzburg 2025" the state of Salzburg is investing 2.5 million euros in pioneering projects at the interface of technology, society and law. Three of the four funded projects are being realised with significant participation from the Faculty of Digital and Analytical Sciences (DAS) The project was realised at the University of Salzburg - a strong sign of the university's leading role in the field of artificial intelligence.

One of these projects is INSPIRE - Intelligent Novel Support for Personalised Instruction and Robust Evaluationproject, which focusses on the use of AI in primary school lessons. The aim is to develop a digital diagnostic tool that recognises children's ways of thinking in open answers and generates individual, curriculum-compliant feedback. This should provide teachers with targeted support and pupils with even more individualised support.

The project is being led by Christina Egger (Salzburg University of Education). On the part of the University of Salzburg Simon Hirländer, Head of the team Smart Analytics and Reinforcement Learning (SARL) on IDA Lab, is centrally involved in the development of the AI components.

The close collaboration between educational practice and technological research will result in an innovative tool that will set new standards both in the classroom and in research. INSPIRE is an example of the responsible and sensible use of AI in education.
